Psychiatric medications are often used in the management of mental health and substance use disorders. Various medications affect mood, attention, behavior, and thought processes. This training will provide an overview of commonly prescribed medications, what they are used for, and associated side effects. This training contains significant medical terminology

Objectives:


  • Participants will have an understanding of commonly prescribed psychiatric medications and their role in treating mental health and substance use disorders.

  • Participants will be aware of common side effects and strategies for helping people communicate their concerns with the prescriber.

  • Participants will be aware of trends and emerging practices associated with the use of psychiatric medications.

This training will provide an overview of the civil commitment process with a focus on the case manager's role. We will review the steps leading up to commitment, the types of petitions, and what happens after someone is civilly committed.  We will explain reporting requirements and revocations.
